Theology Proper

By definition theology is the study of God, but normally we use the word to speak of all biblical truths or doctrines. Theology Proper is a term used to describe the study of God Himself. As A. W. Tozer wrote: “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” In this booklet we will briefly investigate unbiblical ideas about the existence of God and then turn to the scriptural teachings which detail His nature and attributes. Trinitarianism, including historic denials of the doctrine of the Trinity, will be considered, as will the unity and diversity within the Godhead. The important issue of creation will be examined, and a careful examination of the tension surrounding the sovereignty of God and the responsibility of mankind.Teacher TextbookStudent TextbookHandoutsPowerPoint...

Soteriology

A consistent theme in Scripture, from humanity’s corruption at the fall in Genesis chapter three to the final chapter in Revelation, is mankind’s need for deliverance from sin. Since the human race is hopelessly lost in sin what needed to be done to secure its rescue? Soteriology is the study of God’s provision to bring salvation to sinners who deserve nothing but judgment and hell. Themes covered in this study will include substitution, redemption, propitiation, reconciliation, justification, sanctification, adoption, regeneration and much more. In addition an analysis of the Lordship/Free Grace debate is included.TextbookPowerPoint...

Pneumatology

The Holy Spirit has been referred to as the "silent member" of the Trinity. His primary tasks are to minister on behalf of the Father and Son (John 14:16; 16:17) and to magnify Jesus Christ (John 16:14). The Holy Spirit was often neglected in the early church (post-apostolic) as the Church Fathers hammered out their understanding of more pressing issues such as the person and work of Christ. In the twentieth century, due largely to the emergence of the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements, a thorough biblical explanation of the Holy Spirit and His ministry became necessary. As a result, the Scriptural teachings related to the Holy Spirit are far better understood than in the past by Christians willing to do careful study. The resources below will guide you through a theologically sound explanation of who the Holy Spirit is and what He does.Teacher TextbookStudent TextbookHandoutsChart (Ministries of the Holy Spirit)PowerPoint...

Eschatology

Eschatology simply means the study of the end times. This is one of the most intriguing and discussed topics in the Bible, and church history has been greatly effected by how Christian leaders have understood the prophetic Scripture. Sadly, many have greatly misunderstood what God actually says about these things and so have often misstepped. Rightly dividing the Word is the key. What will happen to this world? What will happen to humanity, to me? Does God have a plan? Does He actually give a clear answer? How can I know for certain what is to come? These resources will shed light on a subject that many are afraid to consider - the End Times.Teacher TextbookStudent TextbookPowerPoint...

Ecclesiology

Many people face a great deal of confusion about the church. Some have not had parental examples of church involvement. Others have recently been saved and are wondering how they should participate in the ministries of the church, or why the church is even necessary. Even those who have grown up in a particular local church have heard comments about church differences and divisions. What exactly is the New Testament church, why does the church exist, what is its function, and what roles are individual believers to play in the church, the ecclesia, the “body of Christ?” We will discover that the church is distinct from Israel and is comprised of God’s people, from the coming of the Holy Spirit in Acts chapter two until the rapture of the church prior to the Tribulation.TextbookPowerPoint...

Christology

The person and work of Jesus Christ is central to Christianity. It is vital that we understand that He is eternally the Second Person of the Trinity who, at the incarnation, took on humanity that he might live, die and resurrect from the dead in order that we might be saved from sin. He has now ascended to the right hand of the Father but will return in the future to defeat all who defy Him and to reign on earth over all people. Ultimately He will usher the human race into the eternal state.TextbookPowerPoint...
